He became a “peaceful revolutionary”, leaving his home at the age of seventeen. Because of his facility with languages, Anatol was able to slip across borders and infiltrate enemy political groups. He quickly became a leader of the underground movement and has influenced the course of Ukrainian history for more than 65 years.

Anatol obtained a law degree and a doctorate in Munich and studied international relations at the London School of Economics and Political Science. He is a university professor and a prolific writer. He spent many years as the director of Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty where he broadcast the news around the world to people who had no other source of true information.

When Warner Pictures made the film “Everything Is Illuminated” starring Elijah Wood and directed by Liev Schreiber, Anatol was approached to play the grandfather. He turned it down because the character was anti-Semitic and Anatol (who is Greek Catholic) was uncomfortable saying the words in the script. Fortunately, the film world came calling again and Anatol appeared in MPC Studios production of “Match Point”.

Today Anatol heads a large organization of Ukrainians abroad and works every day in pursuit of a better life for the Ukrainian people and a more stable government in Kiev. He travels, writes and works out in the gym almost every day.
